Qaysari Bazaar

About

Qaysari Bazaar sits immediately south of Erbil Citadel; its founding is attributed to the era of Sultan Muzaffar al-Din Gökböri in the 12th–13th centuries, and the present structure has been rebuilt several times, notably in the early 19th century. Its alleys are organised by trade: gold and jewellery, spices, fabrics and carpets, local honey and dairy, and Kurdish handicrafts such as the traditional klash shoes. The bazaar's old tea houses are among the city's favourite gathering spots.
