Korek Mountain near Rawanduz is reached by Iraq's only cable car, a gondola line of roughly four kilometres climbing from the Bekhal valley to the resort heights. The resort, opened in 2014, offers villas, restaurants and snow-play slopes, with the mountain's summit at about 2,127 metres. In winter it is the region's snow destination; in summer its cool air draws visitors up from the hot plains.
