Sami Abdulrahman Park

About

Sami Abdulrahman Park covers roughly 200 hectares in western Erbil, on land that was once Saddam Hussein's 5th Corps army base. It is named in memory of Sami Abdul Rahman, the KRG deputy prime minister killed in the February 2004 Erbil bombings, and holds a memorial bearing the motto "Freedom is not free". Lakes, rose gardens and long walking paths have made it the city's favourite family retreat.
