Erbil Citadel
Erbil
A fortified ancient mound in the heart of Erbil, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2014 and widely cited as one of the oldest continuously inhabited settlements on Earth.

About
Erbil Citadel is an oval mound rising high above the modern city, with evidence of occupation reaching back at least to the fifth millennium BC. It was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2014, and extensive restoration of its Ottoman-era houses and gates has been under way since. From the top there are views over the city's grand square and the Qaysari Bazaar, and a Kurdish textile museum operates inside the complex.
