Visit the storeYves Saint Laurent Black Opium Eau de Parfum is an amber-gourmand women's fragrance launched in 2014 that quickly became one of the world's best-selling feminine scents. Its idea is a contrast: the electrifying energy of black coffee meeting the assertive femininity of white flowers — the brand itself calls it the legendary coffee-floral fragrance.
It opens on pear, pink pepper and orange blossom, reaches its signature heart of coffee and jasmine, and settles into a warm base of vanilla, patchouli and cedarwood. YSL's own signature line for the scent reads "Orange Blossom - Coffee - Cedarwood Essence". It was composed by four perfumers: Nathalie Lorson, Marie Salamagne, Olivier Cresp and Honorine Blanc.
The bottle echoes the square shape of the legendary Opium (launched by Monsieur Yves Saint Laurent himself in 1977), here in black lacquer under a glitter finish the brand describes as "dressed in sequins", with a round coral-pink medallion at its centre. This listing is the classic lettered-medallion design and its box is printed "EAU DE PARFUM / VAPORISATEUR - SPRAY / 3 fl.oz. / e 90ml".
